Tim Bamford is a Solicitor Advocate with over 30 years’ experience acting primarily in contentious intellectual property matters covering all IP rights from patents to designs and trademarks as well as disputes involving misuse of confidential information and IT contracts. His work often has an international element. Tim has a BSc in biochemistry from London University and an LLM in advanced litigation from Nottingham Law School. He recently obtained an Undergraduate Certificate in philosophy from Oxford.
During his career, Tim has represented clients ranging from multi-national businesses to start-ups and individuals. Whilst IP disputes might be thought to be somewhat binary in nature i.e. are IP rights being infringed or not? and are those rights valid or invalid?, in each situation there still exists the scope for compromise such as licensing or co-existence. Often there are other aspects to the overall dispute such as related contractual matters or the impact of employment agreements, which in each case might best be resolved by constructive, pragmatic agreement as an alternative to uncertain and expensive litigation. Tim’s approach is to foster an environment where parties can engage constructively whilst at the same time recognising that strongly held views may be in play and which need to be accommodated for discussions to proceed effectively.
Tim has consistently looked for the opportunity to use mediation and other ADR techniques as an effective means of resolving disputes and having qualified as an accredited mediator with ADR Group is now available to bring his expertise and experience to help resolve IP and other commercial or contractual disputes. His philosophy in this regard is not to ask the parties to a dispute to look for the middle ground but instead to look for the higher ground!
